Activated carbon filters to remove contaminants and impurities through chemical adsorption. Each piece of carbon is designed to provide a large section of surface area, in order to allow contaminants the most possible exposure to the filter media. In theoretically One pound (454g) of activated carbon contains a surface area of approximately 100 acres (1 km²/kg). This carbon is generally activated with a positive charge and is designed to attract negatively charged water contaminants.

Carbon filters are most effective at removing chlorine, sediment, and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) from water. Typical particle sizes that can be removed by carbon filters range from 0.5 to 50 micrometres. The efficacy of a carbon filter is also based upon the flow rate regulation. When the water is allowed to flow through the filter at a slower rate, the contaminants are exposed to the filter media for a longer amount of time.

There are two main types of carbon filters used in the filtration industry: powdered block filters and granular activated filters. In general, carbon block filters are more effective at removing a larger number of contaminants, based upon the increased surface area of carbon. Many carbon filters also use secondary media, such as silver imprecated carbon to prevent bacteria growth within the filter.

Carbon filters have been used for several hundred years and are considered one of the oldest means of water purification. Historians have shown evidence that carbon filtration may have been used in ancient Egyptian cultures for both air and water sanitization. Currently, carbon filters are used in individual homes as point-of-use water filters and, occasionally, in municipal water treatment facilities. They are also used as pre-treatment devices for reverse osmosis systems and as specialized filters designed to remove chlorine-resistant cysts, such as giardia and cryptosporidium.

Process RO PLANT covers the wide range of boiler feed water, cooling water for heat exchangers or engine, chemicals dilution, etc...

It should typically have a conductivity ranging from 0,1 to 50 uS/cm, with little to no hardness to avoid scaling in heating systems.Oxygen and carbon dioxide should be removed to prevent corrosion.

Once demineralised, process water should be conditioned according to manufacturer's specification, usually up to pH 9 by adding caustic soda or ammonia.

 

Boiler Feed Water Treatment

Proper treatment of boiler feed water is an important part of operating and maintaining a boiler system. As steam is produced, dissolved solids become concentrated and form deposits inside the boiler. This leads to poor heat transfer and reduces the efficiency of the boiler. Dissolved gasses such as oxygen and carbon dioxide will react with the metals in the boiler system and lead to boiler corrosion. In order to protect the boiler from these contaminants, they should be controlled or removed. Except for steam trap maintenance, water treatment has the most potential for reducing annual operating costs in a power plant.



Cooling tower Water Treatment

Prevention of corrosion is crucial in cooling systems. Hexavalent chromium-based ("chrome") compounds are used as efficient and cheap corrosion inhibitors. The trouble is, hexavalent chromium is a suspected carcinogen, and is highly toxic. Chrome emissions from cooling towers in New Delhi alone could cause as many as 700 cancer cases over a 70 year exposure period. Mixed-bed is frequently used where stringent requirements for low contents of salt and silica apply.

Hardness in water is caused by certain salts. The main hardness causing ions are Calcium (Ca2+), Magnesium (Mg2+) and Bicarbonate (HCO3-). These ions or minerals are normally addressed as scale in the water causing scaling of pipes and equipment in drinking water and process water systems. Softening units offer a water purification solution for hard water and lime scale removal.

 

In many applications, e.g. the preparation of drinking water, water in breweries and sodas, but also cooling water and boiler feed water, the hardness of the water is of importance.

The hardness is normally measured in German degree, French Hardness or (equivalent) concentration Ca2+.  Softeners  are specific ion exchangers which are designed to remove ions with a multiple positive charge.

Through softening, the calcium and magnesium salts in the water are exchanged for sodium salts which do not cause the disadvantages of hard water. The method is used in industries and institutions for treatment of water for steam boiler plants and district heating plants, laundries, cooling towers, rinse processes, washing, dishwashing, etc.

Plant design
Flow rates for standard modules: Up to 350 m³/h per unit. The plants are produced as one-tank plants and multi-tank plants as well as cold water plants and hot water plants. The filter tanks are made of steel and coated with polyethylene. Each plant is supplied with a control unit adapted to the job. The plant can either be timer controlled or meter controlled. Meter control gives the best average water quality and economy.


Frame-mounted plants ensure safe and quick installation
Several of the two-tank plants can as standard be delivered as a unit in which tanks, pipe system, and controls are built together and mounted on a frame. The concept "Plug & Play" ensures a safe and quick installation.


Brine tank - brine maker

The brine tanks are made of breach proof polyethylene and are essay to fill and clean. The brine maker can be added to several of the plant series and is delivered as standard with the plant.






IRON REMOVEL FILTERS

Iron removal plants can be based on different filtration media, depending on the iron and manganese concentration, the oxygen level, CO2 content and hardness of the water.

 

Plant principle:
First, air is injected in order to oxidize the iron. The oxidized iron will then precipitate on a sand filter. An MnO2 layer in the sand bed will catalyze the oxidation of residual iron. Backwash will be done by water and by air. More on iron removal principles.

MBBR - Moving Bed Bio film Reactor
With the Moving bed Bioreactor (MBBR) an economically solution is offered for wastewater treatment if the "bulk" of the pollution load must be disposed of (as means of cost reduction) or if applicable discharge regulations are not as strict. Principle

The MGF works on principle of retention and removal of physical impurity in a graded manner through Voids of the filtering media.

Process

This is a Stainless Steel inside Rubber Lining (SSRL) pressure vessel, with internal distribution & collection systems. The frontal and inter connecting pipes and requisite ITALIC valves of BRASS construction along with one lot of sand, silex & pebbles. The necessary instruments like inlet / outlet, pressure gauges are provided with the system.

Function

The physical impurities of raw water i.e. suspended solids, dirt, dust, & all visible particles are removed in M FILTER up to 50 micron.

Resultant

The system reduces the physical impurity load to less then 2 ppm the system can take load of 20 ppm -25 ppm of suspended solutions. 

Product Description

Multigrade filter is a depth filter that makes use of coarse and fine media mixed together in a fixed proportion. This arrangement produces a filter bed with adequate pore dimensions for retaining both large and small suspended particles. This filter performs at a substantially higher specific flow rate than conventional filters. Specific flow rates of 15 – 30 m/h have been successfully obtained for treating waters containing 25 – 50 ppm suspended solids respectively to produce filtrate with less than 5 ppm.

Nanofiltration
Nanofiltration (in its abbreviated terminology known as NF or loose RO) is a process that fits between Ultra filtration and Reverse Osmosis. This is in reference to the size range of molecules being targeted. The pores in a Nanofiltration membrane are 0.001 – 0.005 microns and the pressure requirements are medium to high of 10 – 30 Bar.

 
The selectivity of a Nanofiltration membrane is determined by two different parameters.
Firstly, retention depends on the compound size i.e. from molecular weight. As far as Nanofiltration membranes are concerned, retention and permeability are also a function of electric charge and the valence of the salts and compounds in the solution. Diluted solutions of monovalent ions can mostly pass through a nanofiltration membrane unhindered while most of the multi-valent ions (such as sulfate and carbonate) are retained. As for anions, retention by a nanofiltration membrane increases in the order: nitrate < chloride < hydroxide < sulfate < carbonate < phosphate. Cation retention by a nanofiltration membrane increases in the order: proton < sodium < potassium < calcium < magnesium < copper < iron.

 

This process is used to remove salt and to concentrate very small molecular weight substances.

UltraFiltration Membrane, Principles of Ultrafiltration
Ultrafiltration (UF) is an important water purification technology used for production of high-purity water. UF is effective in the removal of colloids, proteins, bacteria, pyrogens (e.g. gram-negative bacterial endotoxins), and other organic molecules larger than .01 Micron size. 


Basic Principles of Ultrafiltration
Ultrafiltration is a pressure-driven purification process in which water and low molecular weight substances permeate a membrane while particles, colloids, and macromolecules are filtered. The primary removal mechanism is size exclusion. A properly designed UF cartridge allows efficient rising of ionic residue from the cleaning and rapidly returns to optimal resistivity and organic purity (see figures 1 and 2). Reagent-grade sodium hydroxide has proven to be and effective cleaning agent with the following benefits:

Softening is a process where Calcium and Magnesium ions are exchanged for Sodium ions. Calcium and Magnesium ions associated with Alkalinity contributes for scale formation. These ions are also called as Total hardness. The strong acid cation ion exchange resin in Sodium form is used for softening the water. When the resin is exhausted , it is regenerated with brine solution ( Sodium Chloride ) 10 % or 15% brine solution is normally used for the regeneration. If the brine solution is passed from the bottom of the resin and service flow is from the top, then it is called as Up flow softener. If the service and regeneration flows are from top to bottom, then it is called as Coflow softeners. The softeners are run up to the Hardness slip of 5 ppm as CaCO3 in the treated water which is called as Industrial Zero hardness.

 

Product Description ::

Industrial Up flow Softeners are manually operated and designed to suite the requirements of medium scale industries. They incorporate the prove technique of counter flow regeneration. The unit thus produce treated water with low residual hardness throughout the cycle.A strongly acidic cation exchanger in sodium form is used to exchange sodium ions for the hardness forming calcium and magnesium, thus producing soft water. At the end of each service cycle, the ion exchange is regenerated with sodium chloride solution, after which the unit is ready for the next service cycle. For introducing the brine into the unit, a hydraulic ejector with control valve, suction and delivery piping are provided. A combined salt tank which can hold sufficient quantity of salt for a number of regeneration is provided. The unit is supplied in a knocked-down condition and is easily assembled at site. To meet special requirement, these softeners can be supplied for automatic operation.
